Sukhothai was the first kingdom of Thailand established 700 years ago. The province is located on the lower edge of the Northern region, 427 kilometres North of Bangkok, and cover 6,596 square kilometers.
Opposite the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, Sukhothai Historical Park is located 12 kilometres from the provincial city, on Charotwithithong Road, along the Sukhothai – Tak route (Highway No. 12). The park covers the ruins of the ancient glorious Sukhothai Kingdom. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in December 1991. During its golden age, Sukhothai was the centre for administration, religion, and economy. Sukhothai Historical Park comprises the ruins of royal palaces, Buddhist temples, and historical monuments, where the ancient moats, walls, and city gates form a rectangle shape.
